Happy ultrasound

What a relief! We had good news today. I measured at exactly 6 weeks (so in addition to ovulating a couple of days later than average, I had a late implanter or something...) and its little heartbeat pulsed along at 95. It was a strange and wonderful feeling to have the tech actually talk to us about what she was looking at, and she let me put my pants back on without checking with the doctor first. All firsts for us!

In other news, everything makes me gag right now. It doesn't even require a smell or taste... just looking at or thinking about something can make me gag. A sampling from the last two days that made me gag repeatedly: noticing my bra was dirty, seeing a homeless man's long fingernails, seeing or smelling french fries, car exhaust, just being in the grocery store, thinking about the cat's litterbox, hummus, thinking about swallowing vitamins. It's pretty funny actually. I wonder what I look like walking down the street gagging - I'm sure it's attractive!!

I owe you all a blog about "coming out" on Facebook for National Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day last week (which went well), but it will have to wait. Carlos and I need some sleep.

Post-ultrasound dread

My ultrasound yesterday was okay, but didn't provide me with the reassurance I'd hoped for. The good: there was a gestational sac and a yolk sac. (No one's ever mentioned me having a yolk sac before, so that's really positive!) The scary: I measured closer to five weeks rather than six. The doctor thought it looked good for around five weeks, and he didn't seem worried. It could make sense that I would be measure behind, since I ovulate a few days later than average. So intellectually I understand that everything might be progressing just fine, but emotionally I remain pretty freaked out that I didn't appear "on schedule." The doctor suggested that I come back in two weeks if I could wait that long. I said I couldn't wait, so I go back next Friday. In the meantime, my nausea is increasing - I had to leave the grocery store today because gross-looking food kept making me gag. I am grateful for every little sign.
